Preparation for the first EXPLORE analog mission planned for June is running on schedule in Austria.

Last month, a team of analog mission experts from the lead partner of this Erasmus+ project, the Austrian Space Forum (OeWF), went to a local high school, Sillgasse Gymnasium, to test their procedures with a class of students for the forthcoming EXPLORE 1 mission.

The students split into 2 teams, with one becoming Mars analog astronauts and the other running Mission Support back on “Earth”. The students practised using the same techniques and activities that are used by OeWF in their international analog missions, and more importantly, served as a trial of the procedures and elements vital for operations at the habitat in Alqueva, Portugal. Following the event, students were able to provide feedback and ideas that continue to improve the preparations for the 1st EXPLORE Mission this summer.
